Last night, on the eve of President Barack Obama’s Inauguration, my son and I prayed for safety for him, his family, and the sea of Americans who would gather on the Washington Mall to witness history today.

This morning, as we drove to school, an angel in the sky assured us that our prayers were heard.

The golden sun was the head, surrounded by a soft, buttery glow against the pale blue sky.  Triangular cloud formations, glowing in gold-pink symmetry, were the wings.  The body?  A column of yellow descending from the sun in an ever-widening band toward Earth.

Another Inauguration Day angel re-appeared at sunset, as we drove home from school.  She had moved to the western sky, but the yellow column was brighter, almost too bright to look at.  The wings were darker clouds.  And the setting sun was the head, glowing with the golden symbolism of better times to come for America and the world under the leadership of our new President.
